Cold Regions Research and Engineering Laboratory (CRREL) - New 24 Ton Chiller

The 24-ton Chiller project requires extensive coordination and testing to ensure the equipment is up and running properly. The team has tested the equipment’s ammonia detection, supervisory alarm, and chiller settings, all of which are running as designed. An important element of the chiller is connecting the air intake cooling coil to a mixing valve. The team was required to raise the temperature of the cold glycol from -37 degrees to 50 degrees shifting between cold and hot glycol systems. Once the 24-ton chiller is up and running, it requires a few days to dial in the chiller settings and ensure everything is ready for use.
